A top wrestler at the University of Minnesota and his teammate have been arrested on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct, police said.

Gable Steveson, a 19-year-old heavyweight phenom with a 35-2 record as a freshman, and Dylan Martinez, a 21-year-old sophomore from California, were arrested Saturday after a victim told police they were penetrated with an object, police said.

The unidentified victim went to a hospital for treatment, but police have not released additional details of the alleged assault. A police spokesman told The Post that those details were not being made public as of Monday.

The wrestlers had not yet been charged, but one of their attorneys told The Post that Steveson is cooperating with investigators.

“And he did that because, quite frankly, he didn’t think he had done anything wrong,” attorney Christa Groshek said Monday. “Very little is known to us as far as this investigation is concerned, but as things move forward, I’m sure we’ll get more information. But my client has talked to police and he has denied everything.”

Groshek said Steveson, a 285-pound Minnesota native who finished third at the 2019 NCAA Championships, has a “great future” ahead of him and was surprised by his arrest.

“Honestly, we don’t know,” Groshek said when asked for details on the accusations Steveson faces. “We know that somebody has made an allegation about him and he’s cooperating. He didn’t break the law.”

Steveson is expected to appear in court Tuesday, Groshek said.

Messages seeking comment from the university’s athletic department were not returned Monday, but both Steveson and Martinez have been suspended from the team, KSTP reports.

“We are aware of a situation involving two of our student athletes and are in the process of gathering more information,” the statement read. “Federal and state law precludes any further details at this time.”

Both men remained in custody without bail Monday at the Hennepin County Jail, records show.

An attorney for Martinez, who did not wrestle last season, did not return a request for comment, the Star Tribune reports. He was a two-time California Community College champ while wrestling in high school, according to his team bio.
