How old is Darlene Love?

American singer and actress Darlene Wright, better known by her stage name Darlene Love, was born on July 26, 1941. She recorded as a solo artist in addition to being the Blossoms’ lead singer.

The lead singer of the band Honey Cone is her younger sister Edna Wright. She spent some of her formative years in Texas but largely in Los Angeles. She was a devoted member of her church and had grown up listening to gospel music as the daughter of a pastor.

In Hawthorne, California, Wright joined her neighborhood church choir when she was ten years old. Cora Martin-Moore, the choir’s director, noticed her during practice. She was requested to go to the Music Mart after singing for Martin-Moore, where she sang and did some broadcasts.

It was also the primary motivator for her to seek a career in music because it was her first musical encounter. She sang with the mixed-gender doo-wop ensemble The Echoes while still a senior in high school in 1957. The Blossoms, a little-known girl group, then extended an invitation for her to join.
