Katie Ledecky set a new Olympic record in Sunday’s preliminary round of the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3:58.71, four seconds faster than the next-best time in the four preliminary heats and just shy of her own world record mark of 3:58.37 set in 2014. After the race, Ledecky looked as if she’d just taken a dip in her neighborhood pool rather than made history on her sport’s biggest stage. Perhaps that’s because Ledecky hardly broke a sweat, knowing she’ll have another shot at breaking her own record in the final of the 400-meter freestyle on Sunday at 10:01 p.m.
Ledecky reminds us of another tongue-wagging legend.
