Virginia Tech begins the post-Frank Beamer era with a few program firsts. Between new Coach Justin Fuente’s debut in the Hokies’ season opener against Liberty on Sept. 3 and the regular-season conclusion against Virginia on Nov. 26, Fuente will lead Virginia Tech through the first-ever football game at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee and the program’s firs-ever meeting with Notre Dame.
The Hokies play Tennessee for the first time since the 2009 Chik-Fil-A Bowl at the neutral site in Bristol on Sept. 10 and at Notre Dame on Nov. 19.
Virginia Tech also plays consecutive Thursday night games in October, both set to be broadcast on ESPN. The first will be the program’s 17th Thursday night game at Lane Stadium, and pits Fuente against Miami and new Coach Mark Richt. The following Thursday the Hokies face Pittsburgh, one of four ACC teams that handed Virginia Tech a loss last year, at Heinz Field.

“I can’t wait to lead our team out of the tunnel on Sept. 3, and I know Hokie Nation will be ready, too,” Fuente said in a release. “Our fans should be especially enthused about showcasing Lane Stadium for a Thursday night game, as well as the chance to participate in a historic event like the Battle at Bristol.
The Hokies won’t face Clemson or Florida State for the second year in a row, though they do travel to last season’s ACC runner-up North Carolina on Oct. 8. The team has an open date Oct. 1.
